Going on. At first, all of Annie's worst fears - or some of them, anyway - are realized, at least in terms of the DPD somehow finding out about their relationship. She can perfectly remember the conversation where Auggie had mentioned that the Agency doesn't really have a big problem with co-workers dating; if anything, it allows them to keep secrets closer to the vest, but suddenly she's overwhelmed by feeling like the kid with her hand caught in the cookie jar.
Sense ultimately wins out; that can't be what Joan means, not yet. This is the first time they've seen her, and as far as she can recall, their actions have given her no reason to suspect their relationship is anything more than friendly at this point. And the fact that Joan seems to be confined to a fairly small area is telling enough.
"Normally, this place is an island," she admits, and every cold day that passes is enough to make her long for warmer weather. "According to the people I've talked to, this place changes into something different every winter, but - I guess that doesn't really solve the immediate problem of the, um, mistletoe."
