At 41, Joan Campbell still looks like and has the strength and agility of a woman near ten years younger. She wears her pale blonde hair just below shoulder-length, most often loose for work, and in a ponytail at home, dresses in close-fitted sleeveless sheath dresses or jeans, t-shirt and leather jacket. Although she is a slender, fine featured, blue-eyed beauty, Joan is no one's delicate flower. She's exceptionally well-trained in Krav Maga is rated for special weapons and bodyguarding/asset-handling by the CIA. She also speaks several foreign languages including French, German, Spanish, and some Italian, Dutch, Swahili, and Russian.

On the island, she maintains her working cover as a World Bank development expert for Africa. Unless you've been in a situation that required her to fight for her life or know what Annie and Auggie actually do, she will give you no reason to believe she is one of the CIA's top cover operatives, head of the Domestic Protection Division, responsible for all foreign threats that find their way across U.S. borders.
